What is the relationship between Gates Philanthropy Partners and the Gates Foundation?
The Gates Foundation established Gates Philanthropy Partners as a way for donors to give to ambitious solutions addressing today’s challenges—backed by leading experts. We are a 501(c)(3) public charity.
Our funding decisions are made in consultation with the foundation’s experts and leadership. This ensures that donors’ gifts are aligned with the charitable purposes of the foundation and guided by foundation program strategies for greater collective impact.
What do donations to Gates Philanthropy Partners support?
Donations support the Gates Foundation’s trusted grantee partners—the thinkers, advocates, and champions advancing global health, education, and economic opportunities for all. We focus on projects vetted by Gates Foundation experts where additional funds can accelerate impact.
How can I make a donation?
You can donate online, by mail, or via wire transfer. Gates Philanthropy Partners also directly accepts US publicly traded stocks and other illiquid assets through a third-party partner.

How can I donate stocks or other assets?
For US publicly traded securities: Please contact us at give@gatesphilanthropypartners.org or call us at +1.206.726.7277. Our team will respond within two business days with brokerage account information to initiate the transfer.
For illiquid assets like privately held stock or cryptocurrency: We partner with a third party to liquidate the assets. We can work with your financial advisor on transactions involving illiquid assets.

What types of contributions can Gates Philanthropy Partners accept?
There are some limitations in regard to the types of gifts Gates Philanthropy Partners accepts. Please refer to our Gift Acceptance Policy.
Contributions that do not meet the guidelines of our Gift Acceptance Policy will be returned to the donor.
Can my employer match my gift?
Yes, we can accept matched gifts and do not require specific paperwork to process the gift. After making your donation, you can provide your employer with the Gates Philanthropy Partners’ acknowledgement letter for gifts made with cash, check, publicly traded stock, or wire transfer.
In the coming months, you’ll be able to notify your employer when you make an online donation. Stay tuned.
Can I make a gift to Gates Philanthropy Partners in my will?
Yes. Gates Philanthropy Partners accepts gifts of any size made in a will, a revocable trust agreement, an irrevocable trust agreement, or any other manner of non-probate disposition if they meet our contribution guidelines.
Because Gates Philanthropy Partners aligns gifts with programs supported by the Gates Foundation, it can absorb and distribute gifts of any size efficiently. For planned gifts, we do not have specific requirements or language for bequest documents.

Will my donation be tax-deductible?
Donations made directly to Gates Philanthropy Partners are deductible to the full extent allowable under US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations. We will acknowledge contributions by letter or email, which also serves as an acknowledgement of the contribution for tax purposes.
Is Gift Aid available for donations from UK taxpayers?
Unfortunately, Gates Philanthropy Partners is not a registered charity in the UK. Donations are not eligible for Gift Aid at this time.
Can I give directly to grantees of the Gates Foundation?
Yes! We hope you will consider donating directly to grantees of the Gates Foundation. You can find information about Gates Foundation grants and grantees on the foundation’s website in their Grants Database.
How is my personal information protected?
We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to other individuals or organizations. We use standard security measures to protect against misuse and alteration of the information under our control. Will I be charged a fee for making a gift to Gates Philanthropy Partners?
We retain a 0.4% fee for unrestricted purposes as determined by Gates Philanthropy Partners.
Donations made online are processed by a third party, Fundraise Up, which assesses a 3.5% processing fee on all online donations; a 2.2% fee is assessed for credit card processing and donors have the opportunity to directly pay that cost during the online donation process.
Can I apply for funding from Gates Philanthropy Partners?
No, Gates Philanthropy Partners does not respond to requests for funding and does not accept unsolicited grant proposals.
