What are we aiming to solve?
The challenges we face today—from climate-caused crises to poverty and inequality—demand our urgent attention and collective action. By investing in solutions now, we can create a world where future generations thrive.
Your support makes possible the innovative approaches needed to sustain the fight against inequity in health, education, and economic opportunity.
Together, we are investing in bold solutions
We are committed to taking on the challenges of today—and funding partners pushing the boundaries of research and on-the-ground delivery.

HIV Frontiers: HIV & Sickle Cell Disease
These two diseases are among the most prevalent and deadly diseases for children globally. This can be solved. We have an ambitious plan to end both diseases by creating a single-shot cure that is safe, effective, and affordable for all people, no matter where they live.

Women’s economic power
When women earn an income and control their earnings, their children are more likely to attend school, their families are healthier, their self-worth improves, and their household incomes grow. That’s why we’re investing in programs that increase economic opportunities for women in Southeast Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.

Polio
Ending polio remains a top priority for Bill Gates and the Gates Foundation. Since 1988, when the Global Polio Eradication Initiative was launched, the number of cases worldwide has dropped by 99%. We support our partners in reaching every child with vaccines by filling critical funding gaps—to prevent new infections in the countries most impacted.

Global education
Every child deserves a quality education—one where they learn to read and understand numbers. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, a staggering 89% of 10-year-olds in sub-Saharan Africa were not able to read with understanding. We need to get children back on track, which is why we invest in research, new technologies, and interventions that will help school systems across the entire continent.

Nutrition
More than 1 billion women and children do not have access to the nutrition and healthy diets they need to survive and thrive. That is simply unacceptable when solutions exist. We fund partners working on the fortification of foods with essential vitamins and nutrients and improving the safety and affordability of nutritious foods.

Malaria
We believe that it is possible to eradicate malaria. However, we are at a tipping point—climate change is expanding mosquito habitats, and drug and insecticide resistance threaten our current tools for prevention and treatment. Left unaddressed, these challenges could reverse decades of hard-won gains, which is why we invest in partners finding new solutions.

Every person who gives is a philanthropist.
We all have a vital role to play.
“By focusing on the areas of greatest human need, we can realize the full potential of philanthropy at the moment when the world needs it most.”
– Mark Suzman, CEO, Gates Foundation
