Writing that reads "The Optimist" in front of an abstract background

How we’re staying optimistic

The personality test edition

A general view of the ‘The Optimist’ display during the Reaching the Last Mile Forum, held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and in partnership with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation at the Louvre Abu Dhabi in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on November 19, 2019.

Our team loves (really, really loves) personality tests. Last week we rolled up our sleeves between meetings and got serious about taking tests. It was (not) hard work and we’ve compiled our best of for you below.

If you’ve been following Gates Philanthropy Partners, you’ll remember we have our own quiz — GoGates — that uncovers your giving personality. Take it and let us know what you think!

We hope you have as much fun with these as we have!

Your Gates Philanthropy Partners’ Team

The Serious Personality Test: The eerily accurate personality quiz

This quiz got us. It really, really got us. It corresponds with the time-tested Myers Briggs test but takes the analysis a step further. You'll learn more about yourself than you may be ready to know!

Our results: Two Adventurers, one Protagonist, and one Architect.

The Which Character Are You Quiz: It’s not pretty, but it’s fun

While it’s not as pretty as other tests, this was fun because it uses a sliding scale for answers. At least one of us answered all of the questions opposite of how we did originally to make sure didn’t get the same answer (we have a skeptic in our midst).

Our results: Two Donna Moss(s) (West Wing); one Sun-Hwa Kwon (Lost); and one Remus Lupin (Harry Potter). Our opposite personality was Erlich Bachman (Silicon Valley). We are in full agreement that he is absolutely our opposite!

The Kind Quiz: The feel good quiz

From Summery, our partners on the GoGates Quiz, comes the original quiz about kindness. We love this one — it’s a feel good quiz for a Friday afternoon.

Our results: Generous (x2); Purposeful; and Compassionate.

The Proust Questionnaire: There are no right answers

We love the Proust Questionnaire for ice breakers and dinners with friends. It’s a classic.

Just for fun: The silly quizzes

(We aren’t shy to say we’re huge fans of both shows)

(We seriously questioned the Buzzfeed quiz. The Lion King could never be called overrated; and, who knew there was a Pocahontas 2?)
